disclosure
I unfairly enjoy many privileges, and also suffer from some disadvantages. I’ve listed most of them here. This unfinished list contains both advantages and disadvantages to highlight the intersectional nature of privileges.
- able-bodied - i can see, feel, touch, smell, talk, listen, eat and move without much assistance
- ADHD - attention deficit – ooh a butterfly!
- age - young enough not to be taken seriously
- career - do not have a “respectful” paid job
- caste - i’m privileged enough not to be aware of my caste
- class - “middle” class (fancy term for rich people)
- cute - i’m treated better than people deemed bad looking
- digital privilege - ability to use most “digital” stuff without much assistance
- disability - socially unrecognised disabilities
- education
- ethnicity - people don’t ask me “where are you originally from”
- executive dysfunction
- family - i live with my parents, which is both good and bad
- gender - i come with most cishet male privileges and do not have to apologise for my existence, among other things
- geographic location - place with okayish public transport, museums and parks
- housing - do not have to pay rent
- intelligence - some people call me clever or intelligent, and my opinions are given more consideration than people who are considered less smart
- introvertion
- language - i speak the dominant language in my state but a minority language in the country
- mental health
- neurodivergence
- political privilege - probably underrepresented
- race - not sure
- religion - privileges and disadvantages associated with lack of religion
- safety - i do not have to fear people physically attacking me outside my house
- sexuality
- social anxiety disorder
- socioeconomic privilege - not a fist generation learner
- time - privileged to have lots of “free” time
- wealth - probably stolen from oppressed communities over the years
